Alumni Updates for March 2010

Gerald Ward (2007) , Conservation Manager / Senior Conservator, Etherington Conservation Services – Midwest: I am currently running a large conservation facility in northeast Indiana that focuses on collections conservation, rare book and paper restoration, and protective enclosures.

Sarah Long Lee (1985), Tech Services Manager, Mobile Public Library: I’ve been at MPL almost 20 yrs, worked in Reference, Automation. Then became Magazine Svcs Mgr and Ref Mgr. Have been at TS for 1/12 yrs. Hope to retire in 4 yrs. I’m married and have 2 step-children and 5 grand-kids!

Lara Sapp (2007), Reference Librarian, Coy C. Carpenter Library at Wake Forest University School of Medicine: I recently moved back to Winston-Salem after completing a Health Information Outreach Fellowship at the UT- Health Science Center, San Antonio.

Allan Scherlen (1999), Social Sciences Librarian, Appalachian State University Library: Allan Scherlen is the collection management librarian for the social sciences at Appalachian State University Library selecting materials for eight disciplines. Allan was the co-editor of the Balance Point column in Serials Review for five years producing a number of articles related to open access, scholarly publishing, and international topics. Allan has published articles on various issues related to publishing, open access, and libraries in Journal of Criminal Justice Education, Serials Review, Serials Librarian, Public Libraries, and North Carolina Libraries. He has presented at conferences of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, the American Library Association, the North American Serials Interest Group, North Carolina Library Association, and the Mexican Library Association (Asociación Mexicana de Bibliotecarios).

Regina B. Reitzel (2004) , Information Services Librarian, Catawba County Library System: Working as a Technology Librarian at the Catawba County Library System since 2005. Responsible for the Library’s ILS, Public Computers and Adult Basic Computer Instruction. Also serve as a Reference and Collection Development Librarian.

Heather Pierce Smith (2009), Information Services Librarian, South Piedmont Community College, Polkton, NC: I started working as a librarian on the Polkton Campus of SPCC February 15, 2010.

Christopher Richardson (2006), Instructional Services Librarian, Von Canon Library, Southern Virginia University, Buena Vista, VA: A son, named Abie Jay, was born in January 2009.
