get yer party-hopping boots on!

Some librarians are going to rock Hickory during NCLA! And to get the festivities started the LIS Alumni Association is going to meet up at Carraba’s on Wednesday, October 5 from 5:00-7:00 pm. Carrabba’s told us that they don’t have a happy hour, and we said “Don’t worry. We will bring the happy.”  We know other events may compete but none will be as cool. Feel free to stop by and say hello to your fellow alumni as well as some recruited current students.

In addition to happy hour, the LISAA board will be live blogging the events as possible. If you would like to live blog for us on Minerva’s Library, email Lynda.

Alumni of course!

LISAA Brunch

Breakfast of course!

We missed you all! We will be doing a brunch (or lunch or wine) at a city near you. Get in touch with Jennifer Smith or Lynda (on the Executive Board) if you are interested in hosting a brunch (or lunch, etc) in your own fair town. We have one more wonderful event on the schedule! Don’t miss out if you live in Eastern NC!

ALA Round-up! YEEEEEHAW!

ALA Annual is right around the corner. To share some of our experiences the LIS Alumni Association will host its first ALA Round-Up, a virtual meet and greet, on July 9 from 12pm-1pm. We will be joined by Kathy Shields, the Head of Reference and Instruction at High Point University, and Amy Pace, Lead Librarian at High Point University’s University Center. Both ladies will be working for Cognotes, the ALA conference newspaper, and will have many experience to share. We will have time for questions and comments. If you are going to ALA and would like to be on the agenda to talk about the highlights of your ALA 2010 experience, please contact Lynda Kellam by July 1.

Please RSVP for the ALA Round-Up by July 8: http://tinyurl.com/lisaa-rsvp

Technical requirements: We will be using a collaborative software called Elluminate. It requires that you be able to download Java onto your computer, but you do not need any special software. After you RSVP, we will send you a link that you can use to test the software. If you have any questions, please contact Lynda. You do not need a microphone as a chat system is available in the software. You may want to use a headset depending on your desk configuration.

Our first LISAA Meet & Greet!!

We had our inaugural virtual Meet & Greet yesterday afternoon. Although there were some tech glitches, it was definitely a successful beginning. Check out the recording and listen to the discussion. If you have any comments or additions to the discussion, please comment here!

P.S. You can fast forward through some of the tech glitches if you go to 4:30 minutes in the recording!

LISAA’s Virtual Meet & Greet

You told us what you wanted and LISAA heard you. In our recent survey, several alumni asked to have more opportunities for networking, but many of you also wanted virtual access. On March 12, 2010 at noon, LISAA will host a Virtual Meet & Greet moderated by Lauren Pressley and Lynda Kellam. We hope that many of our alumni can take advantage of this opportunity to learn about their fellow alumni. We also would like to hear more from you about the types of continuing education opportunities LISAA could provide. If you would like to attend our meet and greet, please RSVP @ http://tinyurl.com/lisaa-rsvp by February 26.

Technical requirements: We will be using a collaborative software called Elluminate. It requires that you be able to download Java onto your computer, but you do not need any special software. After you RSVP, we will send you a link that you can use to test the software. If you have any questions, please contact Lynda. Also, you may talk using Elluminate, but you will need to have a headset with a microphone or an external microphone. If you do not have either, you may still participate through the internal chat.
